A tribute to Ally, Tash, Helen, and the sun-drenched days that get me through the slides.

We all have that one era in our lives that feels entirely drenched in sunshine. It’s the time before life got complicated, back when our responsibilities were light but our laughter was loud.
For me, it was the days of empty petrol tanks, bare faces, and a friendship so bright it could burn away any shadow. We didn’t have much cash, but we had each other, endless nights, and the making of memories to last a lifetime.
I wrote this for my girls, who danced through it with me, and for anyone who still looks back on those golden days when life gets a bit heavy.
Girls on Fire
Yellow Flames - for Ally, Tash, and Helen
A time to shine.
Those were the days,
Flew by so fast, all a beautiful haze.
But bright and glittered,
We now see clearly,
Such a special warmth
We treasure so dearly.
We worked and played, our balance precise.
We were up all night,
Loved our peas and rice.
Daily breakfasts at Finezz, or The Spur for lunch,
Never had any cash, but were the girls that brunch.
Dancing shoes in the car and always bare-faced,
Makeup was not our thing, Yaga and tequila took its place.
Boys next door always lent us crockery,
Always someone with a plan to have us up till half-past three.
Popcorn and coffee the menu when the petrol tank was low,
Bikinis and cold savannahs, time to take it slow.
The yellow shone from all of us, happiness is hard to hide.
Days like these are where we go when life feels like a slide🛝
Over to you...
When you close your eyes and think of the “yellow flames” in your own life, where does your mind take you? Who are the friends you go back to when life feels like a slide?
Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear about your golden days.
